Her grandmother, who raised her until age 3, said to H3 Podcast interviewers that she was raised into the slums of Manila by her father, Poarch. Kenneth Taylor, an American ex-pat, and his wife Eden took her in. In the 10 years following the adoption, she spent the majority of her time working on the family's land and at work. Poarch has two adopted sisters as well as an older brother Bryner. The family of Poarch moved to Texas after a move from the Phillipines at the age of 13. The older sisters of hers stayed at home. Poarch served for a few years as an officer with the United States Navy, and afterward, she was in Japan.
